Here’s What Community Foundations Are Doing to Help Countries Welcoming Ukrainian Refugees

As the deadly war in Ukraine continues and individuals and families flee their homes, community foundations in the U.S. are ramping up efforts to provide relief to Ukrainian refugees.

The Pittsburgh Foundation has partnered with the United Way of Southwestern Pennsylvania on United Way Worldwide’s #UnitedForUkraine campaign — a multinational effort to help support and direct donations to countries welcoming Ukrainian refugees — and encouraging donors to give.

Sponsored by the Community Foundation of Utah, the Utah for Ukraine Fund will provide immediate short-term relief to refugees, and donations will be matched up to $2 million.

In addition, the following foundations have identified and vetted a number of organizations that donors can support:

·       East Tennessee Foundation

·       Greater Houston Community Foundation

·       Community Foundation of New Jersey

·       The New York Community Trust

Donations will aid in providing basic living necessities like food, shelter, clothing, transportation, and medical assistance.

The war in Ukraine has caused more than 2 million people to leave their homes since Russia’s invasion on Feb. 24. Millions more are expected to leave as conditions worsen.
