Everyone deserves to have a safe and stable place to call home.

Yet the nationwide housing crisis has left far too many Americans homeless, living in substandard housing or being a paycheck away from not making rent or mortgage payments.

According to a new report by the Community Foundation Awareness Initiative, community foundations across the country are stepping up to take a leading role in expanding affordable housing options through impact investments, grantmaking and advocacy work.

The report also demonstrates that through collaboration, more people – individuals, families, veterans, persons with disabilities and more – can have access to affordable housing.

Ultimately, by fostering partnerships with lawmakers, grantmakers, and housing advocacy groups, community foundations can be a catalyst to deploy effective solutions to address our nation’s affordable housing crisis.

In the coming weeks, we will highlight sections of the report that showcase the innovative and different approaches that community foundations are taking to improve housing access, opportunity and affordability.
