Wichita Community Foundation Fund Puts Focus on Education and Mental Health

The Victor Murdock Fund at the Wichita Community Foundation (WCF) is awarding $120,000 to address key components of the community’s long-term recovery from COVID-19 – education and mental health.

The fund, established 20 years ago to honor Wichita Eagle founder Victor Murdock, is one of a growing number of community foundation-led efforts to provide long-term support to those impacted by Covid-19.

Two Wichita nonprofits will receive $60,000 each: Fundamental Learning Center and the Mental Health and Substance Abuse Coalition which is fiscally sponsored by the Wichita Metro Crime Commission

The grant dollars make it possible for the Fundamental Learning Center to provide language skills to 200 children, most between the ages of 5 and 7; in addition, for the Substance Abuse Coalition to create an integrated system of care related to mental health and substance abuse.

“Each program is sure to aid the community as we navigate the long-term recovery from the pandemic,” said WCF President and CEO Shelly Prichard.
