Greater Toledo Community Foundation Makes Innovative Investment in Solar Energy
By Nicki Faircloth
The Greater Toledo Community Foundation is leading the way toward a green future through its investment in a new solar array that will provide clean energy for a local industrial park and generate revenue that will help support job training and workforce development investments.
The new solar farm, which will be constructed in Toledo’s Overland Industrial Park, is expected to be in full operation in 2020. It will produce clean energy for a 300,000 square foot space that houses Dana Inc.
The foundation will sell the energy to Dana through a separate nonprofit that will own the solar field. The revenues will then be granted to support job training and workforce development efforts in Toledo.
“This unique community collaboration allows Dana to capitalize on all the benefits of renewable energy while also making a significant economic impact on the residential neighborhoods surrounding our facility,” said James Kamsickas, Dana’s president and CEO.
